Evidences of Climate Variability

Climate variability refers to the natural characteristic of the earth’s climate that manifests in the changes of climate with reference to time. The degree of variability in climate can be described by the diversity between the long-term statistics of the meteorological elements that are calculated for diverse periods. The measure of climate variability is also the measure of climate change.

There are several evidences that show climate variability. One evidence or effect that climate change is really happening is extreme amount of rainfall that causes floods and typhoons in numerous regions in the globe. The global climate is affected by the people’s abuse of the environment. The warmer temperatures in different parts of the globe had led to intense rainfall events in numerous areas. This is what we call natural calamities and disasters due to heavy flooding.

Another evidence of climate variability is extreme drought. Several countries are now experiencing a phenomenon called “El Nino”. The higher temperatures cause a bigger rate of evaporation resulting to more droughts in different areas in the world.

In addition, ecosystems are now changing as the temperatures begin to warm. This warming of temperatures causes other species to move into colder habitats or else they die. Species that are vulnerable to this change include coral reefs, polar animals and endangered species. The warming of the earth has caused changes within the spring event timings and the period of the growing season.

Climate variability also has a negative effect on human health. There had been more and more deaths due to frequent heat waves as well as allergy attacks as there had been longer seasons of pollen or pollination. While it is true that animals and humans learn to adapt from its environment or surroundings, the rate of global warming is fast and continually increasing. If we do not take good care of our mother earth now, there will come a time when all of us will be greatly affected and all of us will suffer.
