There are different effects of global climate change that we now feel today. Climate change is the result of our continuous negligence with the environment. More than a hundred years ago, people from all over the world were burning more oil and coal for factories, transportation and homes. These burning fossil fuels emit other greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide into the earth’s atmosphere. These emissions have caused our mother Earth to warm quickly than it was in the past.
Exactly how much warming of the earth happened? Scientists from all over the world stated that during those 100 years, the surface air temperature of the world increased by an average of 1.1 degrees Fahrenheit or about 0.6 degrees Celsius. This may appear as though it isn’t a big deal, but even a single degree has a great impact on the earth.
The United Nations is building a worldwide campaign about preventing and minimizing the negative effects of climate change. Below are some of the effects of global climate change as well as some climate change facts.
Consistent Rise on Sea Level Rising – The sea level of the earth rose to about 6 inches or 15 centimeters in the 20th century because of the expansion of the warmer seawater and the melting of the glacier ice. There are certain predictions that the sea level may continue to rise up to 23 inches or 59 centimeters in the 21st century, which will greatly affect coral reefs, wetlands and coastal communities.
The melting of the Arctic Sea, the permafrost and the Glaciers – This ice melting will lead to changers in the ocean’s circulation. It may also lead to the warming of the Arctic Sea.
Heavy rainfall causing flood in numerous regions – We are now experiencing these heavy rains and floods as effects of global climate change. This is also the reason why the United Nations has concocted a pledge for every country to reduce the emissions of toxic gas or greenhouse gases and to spread awareness regarding climate change.
